Guide

What this calculator does

Sade Sati is counted from your Moon sign, so the calculator first finds the Moon's sidereal sign at birth, then follows Saturn through the sidereal zodiac from your birth onward and marks every stretch when Saturn stands in the twelfth, first or second sign from your Moon. It tells you whether you are in Sade Sati today, which phase, when it ends, and lists every past and future period, including the dhaiya transits of the fourth and eighth signs.

How is Sade Sati calculated?

  1. Find the Moon's sidereal sign at birth (Lahiri ayanamsa).
  2. Compute Saturn's sidereal sign month by month from birth for ninety years, pinning each sign change to the day.
  3. Mark each interval where Saturn is in the sign before the Moon (phase 1), on the Moon (phase 2) or after it (phase 3), and group consecutive intervals into one Sade Sati.
  4. Mark the fourth and eighth signs as dhaiya.

Worked example

Born 14 August 1990 at 12:00 in Mumbai, the Moon is in Vrishabha. Saturn entered sidereal Mesha in April 1998, crossed Vrishabha from 2000 and left Mithuna in 2005: the first Sade Sati, in childhood. Saturn returns to Mesha in 2027, so the next Sade Sati runs from 2027 to about 2035, with the second phase, Saturn over the Moon, around 2030 to 2032.

How to read your result

The headline tells you where you stand today. The table is the full calendar; use the phase readings for what the tradition associates with each stretch. Sade Sati is a period in a cycle that everyone passes through about three times in a long life, and it is described here as work, not as a curse.
