House Facing Checker: Direction and Entrance Pada
Stand in your main doorway looking out and take the bearing with the compass button, or type it. Add where the door sits along that wall and the checker names the facing, the entrance pada of the Vastu Purusha Mandala and what the tradition says about both.
Guide
What this tool does
Two facts decide how the tradition reads a main entrance: which side of the house it is on, the facing, and where along that side it sits, the entrance pada. This checker takes the door's bearing from the compass or by typing, names the facing with its reading, and, when you add the door's position along the wall, names the pada and says whether it is one of the favourable ones.
How to use it
- Stand in the main doorway looking out and take the bearing with the compass button, or type it.
- Face the house from outside, divide that wall into eight equal parts from the left corner, and pick the part the door is in.
- Read the facing, the pada and its quality.
The favourable padas
| Side | Favourable padas (from the left corner seen from outside) |
|---|---|
| North | 3 Mukhya, 4 Bhallat, 5 Soma |
| East | 3 Jayant, 4 Indra, 5 Surya |
| South | 3 Vitatha, 4 Grihakshat |
| West | 3 Sugriva, 4 Pushpadanta, 5 Varuna |
Numbering conventions differ between schools; this site counts from the left as you face the house from outside, and says so on every result.
How to read your result
The facing reading is general; the pada is specific. A door in a pada the tradition avoids is usually handled by shifting the door within the wall or by balancing it, not by rebuilding, and that is a practitioner's call. The checker describes and makes no claim about outcomes.
