What this calculator does
Mangal dosha is the placement of Mars in certain houses of the birth chart. The calculator casts the chart for your date, time and place (Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses), finds Mars's house from the lagna and from the Moon, and tells you whether the traditional rule reads the chart as Manglik, with the rule stated plainly and its exceptions left to an astrologer.
How is it calculated?
- Compute the lagna and the sidereal positions of Mars and the Moon.
- Count Mars's house from the lagna: the lagna's sign is house 1.
- If that house is 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12, the chart is read as Manglik.
- Count again from the Moon's sign as the secondary test.
Worked example
Born 14 August 1990, 12:00, Mumbai: lagna Tula, Mars at 26°56′ Mesha. Mesha is the seventh sign from Tula, so Mars is in the 7th house and the chart is read as Manglik. From the Moon in Vrishabha, Mesha is the 12th, which the tradition reads as the stronger form, both counts agreeing.
How to read your result
The badge and the two house counts are the whole of the rule. Everything beyond that, including whether the dosha is cancelled, is a reading an astrologer makes with the full chart and the partner's. The site makes no predictions and sells no remedies.
