Number 6 in Indian numerology is the number of Venus: it stands for love, beauty, comfort and the care of the people close to you. It is the Moolank of everyone born on the 6th, 15th or 24th of a month, and it can also be a person's Bhagyank, name number or mobile number total.
This page goes through 6 in depth. The panel above lists its traditional correspondences, which come from the same table as every result card on this site.
Why does Venus rule number 6?
Indian numerology gives each number from 1 to 9 to one of the nine grahas, and 6 goes to Venus, Shukra, the sixth graha in the order the system uses. In Jyotish Venus signifies love and marriage, beauty, the arts, music, comfort, luxury and vehicles. In the Puranas Shukracharya is the guru of the asuras, so Venus is a graha of knowledge as well as pleasure.
Number 6 borrows that character. A 6 notices how a place feels and whether people are comfortable. It wants harmony around it and will often work quietly to create it: rearranging a room, smoothing over a disagreement, remembering who likes what at dinner.
Venus's friendships and where the table departs
In Jyotish Venus counts Mercury and Saturn as friends, Mars and Jupiter as neutral, and the Sun and the Moon as enemies. The numerology table follows this in some places and departs from it in others:
- Mercury (5) and Mars (9): the table agrees with Jyotish. 6 and 5 are friendly both ways; 6 and 9 are neutral both ways.
- Jupiter (3): Venus treats Jupiter as neutral, but Jupiter counts Venus as an enemy, and the two are the rival teachers of the devas and the asuras. The table makes 3 and 6 opposing in both directions, following Jupiter's side and the old rivalry.
- Saturn (8): Venus and Saturn are friends both ways in Jyotish. In the table 8 counts 6 as friendly, but 6 is only neutral to 8, so the table is cooler than the grahas.
- The Sun (1): an enemy of Venus in Jyotish, and the Sun counts Venus as an enemy too. Yet the table makes 1 and 6 friendly in both directions. This is the clearest departure, and the number 1 page notes it from the other side.
- The Moon (2): also an enemy of Venus in Jyotish, while the Moon treats Venus as neutral. The table softens this to neutral in both directions.
Rahu (4) and Ketu (7) have no settled friendship list in the classical texts, and schools differ. The table counts 4 and 7 as mutual friends of 6. For 4 this has a traditional basis: a common Jyotish saying holds that Rahu acts like Saturn, and Saturn is a friend of Venus. For 7 there is no such link, since Ketu is said to act like Mars, which is only neutral to Venus, so treat that pairing as a numerology convention. This site follows the common numerology table and records the differences.
What is a number 6 person like?
The strengths of 6 show up as behaviour more than as personality labels:
- Making things pleasant. A 6 is often the one who brings flowers to a new colleague's desk, notices the lighting is harsh, or turns a plain meal into an occasion.
- Taking responsibility. When a parent falls ill or a friend moves house, a 6 tends to show up without being asked and stay until the work is done.
- Keeping the peace. A 6 can sense tension in a room early and is usually the one who finds words both sides can accept.
- Loyalty. Once a 6 has committed to a person, a family or a team, they stay.
Every number also has a shadow side, the same qualities pushed too far:
- Saying yes too often. A 6 may take on the cooking, the planning and everyone's problems, then feel quietly resentful that nobody noticed.
- Helping as control. Care can tip into deciding what is best for others, from what they should eat to whom they should marry.
- Avoiding conflict. A 6 may keep the surface calm while a real problem goes undiscussed for months.
- Comfort over growth. Venus loves ease, and a 6 can stay in a familiar job or habit long after it has stopped serving them, or spend on comforts to soothe stress.
None of this is fixed. Numerology describes tendencies; the growth edge for 6 is boundaries: caring for others without losing yourself, and trusting that people can be loved without being managed.
Born on the 6th, 15th or 24th
All three dates give Moolank 6, but practitioners read them differently, because the digits of the date show what sits underneath the 6. The Chaldean tradition also gives each two-digit total its own reading:
- 15MagnetismIn Cheiro's list 15 is a number of magnetism and some mystery: eloquence, a gift for music, art or performance, and a talent for drawing people and resources. As the total of a name or date it often shows as charm that opens doors, with gifts, favours and money arriving through others. Tradition calls it fortunate on that front. The balance point is using the charm honestly, so that what draws people in is matched by what they find.
- 24Fortune through othersIn Cheiro's list 24 is a fortunate number of gains through others: help from people of rank and position, and success through relationships, partnerships and affection. In the old wording it also favours matters of the heart and help from the opposite sex. As the total of a name or date it often shows as doors opened by goodwill. The constructive way to use it is to invest in relationships honestly and keep the benefit mutual.
- 33Fortune through othersRead like 24: in Cheiro's list 33 is a fortunate number of gains through others, through relationships, partnerships and affection, with help from people of standing. As the total of a name or date it often shows as goodwill that opens doors. In Western numerology 33 is also a master number, which this site notes separately. The constructive way to use it is to invest in relationships honestly and keep the benefit mutual.
- 42Fortune through othersRead like 24: a fortunate number of gains through others, through relationships, partnerships and affection, with help from people of rank and standing. In the old wording it also favours matters of the heart. As the total of a name or date it often shows as doors opened by goodwill and introductions. The constructive way to use it is to invest in relationships honestly and keep the benefit mutual.
- 51The warriorCheiro called 51 the warrior: a powerful number of sudden advancement, drive and the energy of someone who leads a cause. It also draws opposition and rivals in return. As the total of a name or date it often shows as rapid rises, especially in roles that call for courage or command. It is strong for leadership. The balance is not making enemies needlessly: choose your contests with care, and secure each gain before reaching for the next.
- Compound readings follow the Chaldean tradition and are under review.
- Born on the 6th. The purest form of the number. Venus comes through directly: warm, home-loving, aesthetically sensitive and devoted to the people close by. These 6s often have the strongest pull towards family duty.
- Born on the 15th. Underneath this 6 are a 1 (the Sun) and a 5 (Mercury). The Sun adds confidence and the wish to be seen, Mercury adds speech and a quick mind. The Chaldean reading of 15 is "magnetism": charm, eloquence and a talent for drawing people and resources. The balance point the compound names is using that charm honestly.
- Born on the 24th. Underneath are a 2 (the Moon) and a 4 (Rahu). The Moon adds feeling and sensitivity; Rahu adds method and an unconventional streak. The reading of 24 is "fortune through others": gains through relationships, partnerships and affection. These 6s often do best with a partner or inside a close team.
Number 6 as your Moolank
Moolank, the root number, is read from the day of birth alone and describes temperament: how you meet the world day to day, before life experience has added anything. A Moolank 6 child is often the one who looks after a younger sibling without being told. As adults, Moolank 6s are often the person friends call when something needs organising with care: a wedding, a family function, a hospital visit. Colleagues and friends often describe them as kind, easy to be around, and sometimes too willing to take on other people's work.
Number 6 as your Bhagyank
Bhagyank, the destiny number, is read from the full date of birth and describes the direction life keeps pulling you in rather than your temperament. With Bhagyank 6, that direction is responsibility and relationship: building a home, holding a family or community together, and making something beautiful or comfortable for others.
Someone with a sharper Moolank, say 1 or 9, and Bhagyank 6 may spend their early years chasing independent goals, then find that marriage, children or the care of parents becomes the centre of their life, and that they are good at it.
Number 6 as a name number or mobile number
As a name number, 6 gives a name warmth and approachability. It suits someone whose work depends on trust and goodwill: a designer, a doctor, a teacher, a shop or a brand that wants to feel welcoming.
As a mobile number total, 6 is read as a number of relationships and pleasant dealings, suited to someone whose phone is mostly for family, clients and bookings. Tradition reads it as most comfortable when your Moolank or Bhagyank is friendly to 6. Treat this as a small factor; a phone number does not decide outcomes.
Work and money
A 6 tends to do well wherever care, taste and people come together:
- Design and the arts: interiors, fashion, jewellery, music, photography, or any craft where the result has to look and feel right.
- Hospitality and events: hotels, restaurants, weddings, travel, and work that makes people comfortable.
- Care and teaching: nursing, counselling, early-years teaching, and roles where people depend on steady attention.
- Beauty, comfort and luxury: cosmetics, wellness, textiles, vehicles and home goods, all of which Venus signifies.
What drains a 6 is ugliness and hostility: harsh workplaces, constant conflict, and work where nobody cares how things are done.
With money, a 6 usually earns through goodwill and repeat custom, and is generous with family. The habits to watch are spending on comfort and appearance when stressed, and lending to relatives because refusing feels unkind.
Relationships and compatibility
Relationships are where 6 is most at home. A 6 is affectionate, attentive and loyal, and shows love by creating a good life together: a well-kept home, remembered anniversaries, food made the way the other person likes it. What a 6 needs in return is appreciation.
The friction usually comes from unspoken expectations. A 6 may give in the hope of being given to. The strongest relationships for a 6 are those where both people say what they need out loud, so that care flows both ways.
Here is how 6 relates to each number, read from both sides of the table:
How 6 relates to each number. The table is read from both sides, because tradition does not always make a pairing mutual.
| Number | Graha | From 6's side | From their side |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sun | Friendly | Friendly |
| 2 | Moon | Neutral | Neutral |
| 3 | Jupiter | Opposing | Opposing |
| 4 | Rahu | Friendly | Friendly |
| 5 | Mercury | Friendly | Friendly |
| 6 | Venus | Friendly | Friendly |
| 7 | Ketu | Friendly | Friendly |
| 8 | Saturn | Neutral | Friendly |
| 9 | Mars | Neutral | Neutral |
A few pairings are worth a word:
- 6 and 5: Venus and Mercury, friends in Jyotish and friendly both ways in the table. The 5 brings variety, the 6 brings warmth and a home base.
- 6 and 3: Venus and Jupiter, the two teachers, and the one opposing pair. A 3 wants to expand; a 6 wants comfort and harmony. The pair works when the 3 respects the home the 6 builds and the 6 gives the 3 room to roam.
- 6 and 8: the table is not mutual. 8 counts 6 as friendly, while 6 is neutral to 8. The 8 is often drawn to the 6's warmth, while the 6 can find the 8's seriousness heavy. In Jyotish Venus and Saturn are friends both ways, so some schools read this pair more warmly than this table does.
- 6 and 1: friendly in both directions in the table, even though the Sun and Venus are enemies in Jyotish. The 1 leads and the 6 makes the leadership pleasant to live with, as long as the 1 does not treat the 6's care as service.
For two whole profiles, Moolank and Bhagyank together, use the compatibility calculator. No number pairing decides whether a relationship succeeds.
Health in tradition
Jyotish links Venus with the reproductive system and the kidneys, and some texts add the throat and the face. Traditional readings tell a 6 to watch over-indulgence in rich food, sweets and late nights, and to keep comfort from turning into inactivity.
This is tradition, recorded for learning. It is not medical advice, and nothing in a number replaces a doctor.
Timing: days, dates and personal years
Tradition gives 6 its own times:
- Day: Friday, Shukravar, the day of Venus.
- Dates: the 6th, 15th and 24th of any month, the dates that share the number.
- Personal years: a personal year 6 is a year of home and responsibility, when family and the people who depend on you come first. For a person whose Moolank is also 6, it is read as a year that suits marriage, moving house or caring for others. A personal year 3, the opposing number, brings expression and a wider circle, which can pull a 6 away from home more than they like; it is a year for letting the world in rather than resisting it.
The personal year calculator works out which year of the cycle you are in.
Number 6 in the Lo Shu grid
In the Lo Shu grid, 6 sits in the bottom right corner. That places it on three planes: the practical plane (8-1-6), the action plane (2-7-6) and the golden plane (4-5-6), the diagonal of success through effort. Its presence is read as harmony, care for others and a sense of responsibility for home and family. On this site the Moolank is also placed on the grid, so every Moolank 6 has at least one 6.
- One 6 is read as a healthy sense of responsibility and a feel for a comfortable home.
- Two 6s are read as strong care for family, sometimes with worry about the people close to you.
- Three or more 6s are read as care that can tip into anxiety or over-involvement, and some practitioners note a tendency to put others' needs first for too long.
- No 6 means harmony and domestic care are learned rather than instinctive. It does not mean a person is uncaring, only that care is practised, not automatic.
Traditional practices linked to Venus
Indian tradition associates several everyday practices with Venus. They are listed here as culture, not as remedies:
- Friday observances, such as worship of Lakshmi, or the Santoshi Mata fast kept by some families in north India.
- The Shukra mantra, recited by some on Fridays, often alongside prayers to Lakshmi.
- Respect for one's spouse and for women in the family, since Venus signifies marriage and partnership.
The diamond and silver are listed as Venus's traditional gem and metal. They appear in the panel above for completeness. This site does not recommend buying gemstones or any object for results.
A worked example
Take a person born on 24 June 1985.
- Moolank: the day is 24, and 2 + 4 = 6.
- Bhagyank: 2 + 4 + 0 + 6 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 35, then 3 + 5 = 8.
- The compound behind the Moolank is 24, "fortune through others".
The reading: a 6 with a 2 and a 4 underneath, so Venus's warmth with the Moon's sensitivity and Rahu's method. The relation between the two numbers is not mutual. From 6's row, 8 is neutral; from 8's row, 6 is friendly. That is read as a destiny of Saturn's work and patience that welcomes this person's warmth, while the person may at first find its demands heavy. Life is likely to reward steady effort in a field built on trust, such as a family business or a long-term practice. The growth edge is the 6's usual one: setting boundaries, especially when the work and the family both want more.
