Guide

What this calculator does

Bhagyank (भाग्यांक) is the number of your whole date of birth. Where Moolank shows who you are by instinct, Bhagyank shows where life keeps pointing you: the kind of work, people and situations that recur. Lesson 6 covers it in depth.

How is Bhagyank calculated?

  1. Write your date of birth with two digits for the day and month and four for the year: DD MM YYYY.
  2. Add all eight digits.
  3. Reduce the total to a single digit by adding its digits again.

Zeros add nothing, so 10 January 2005 and 1 January 2005 give the same total: 1+0+0+1+2+0+0+5 and 0+1+0+1+2+0+0+5 both make 9. Writing the zeros still matters, because it stops you dropping a real digit by accident.

Worked example

Born on 14 August 1990, written 14 08 1990:

  • 1 + 4 + 0 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 32
  • 3 + 2 = 5

Bhagyank = 5, ruled by Mercury: a life that keeps offering change, communication and trade. Because the total before reduction is 32, the card also shows the compound reading for 32, which the Chaldean table calls "the persuader".

A second example: a master number

Born on 1 March 1980, written 01 03 1980:

  • 0 + 1 + 0 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 0 = 22
  • 2 + 2 = 4

Bhagyank = 4, ruled by Rahu. The full total is exactly 22, so the card adds a note: 22 is a master number, it still reduces to 4, so read the 4 meaning first and treat 22 as its heightened form. The compound panel shows 22, "the dreamer". See number 4 and master numbers.

Compare 18 April 1996: 1 + 8 + 0 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 6 = 38, 3 + 8 = 11, 1 + 1 = 2. An 11 appears on the way, but the full total is 38, so no master note appears.

How to read your result

From top to bottom, the card shows:

  1. The number and headline. The one-line character of the number.
  2. The Bhagyank reading. A paragraph written for this role. It describes direction rather than personality: a 5 does not make you talkative, it means situations that reward adaptability keep turning up.
  3. Master-number note, only when the full total is 11, 22 or 33.
  4. Facts. Ruling planet, keywords, lucky colours, lucky days and friendly numbers.
  5. Compound number. The Chaldean reading of your pre-reduction total. Any date of birth totals between 4 and 48, so this panel appears whenever the total is 10 or more.
  6. Strengths and Watch for, then a link to the number's full page.
  7. Vedic attributes. A folded panel of the ruling planet's gemstone, metal, favourable dates and direction, listed as tradition. Nothing in it is a remedy or something to buy.
  8. How it was calculated, for example "0+1+0+3+1+9+8+0 = 22 → 4".

Then compare the result with your Moolank. For 1 March 1980 the Moolank is 1. Row 1 of the table lists 4 as neutral, while row 4 lists 1 as friendly: the relation is read from each number's own row and is not always mutual. Lesson 7 explains pairs.

Common mistakes

  • Writing the year as two digits. 14 08 90 gives 1+4+0+8+9+0 = 22, a false master number and a Bhagyank of 4 instead of 5.
  • Reducing day, month and year separately and expecting the same compound. 14, 08 and 1990 reduce to 5, 8 and 1, which total 14. The final digit is the same, 5, but the compound is 14, not 32, so the compound reading and any master note change. This calculator adds all eight digits at once.
  • Treating 22 as a tenth number. A master number is read through its single digit first.
  • Reading an opposing pair as a warning. It describes a tension to understand, never an outcome.

Where do numerologists disagree?

Master numbers are the main point. This site's setting is "final-total": a note only when all eight digits add to exactly 11, 22 or 33. Other schools flag a master number at any stage, which would mark 18 April 1996 as 11, and some ignore master numbers altogether. The rule is one switch in the configuration so a reviewing numerologist can change it.
